Itinerary

Day1 Chandigarh - Shimla

  • We woke up and had breakfast on the first day before taking a bus to Shimla.
  • On our way to Shimla, we saw some of the most beautiful mountain ranges we have ever seen!
  • Once we reached Shimla, our first stop was at the Christ Church, where they had a small church service.
  • Shimla offers scenic views as it is surrounded by mountains on all sides and presents quite a different perspective.
  • The charm lies in small shops and markets selling traditional Indian food items like spices, dry fruits, dried vegetables, sweets etc., apart from its temples and churches.

Then we went to the Ridge, a popular tourist destination because it has some beautiful views of the city and is also home to many monuments, including Viceregal Lodge and The Gaiety Theatre.

Day2 Shimla - Kufri

  • On the second day, we travelled to Kufri, located at 2,289 meters and famous for its breathtaking views.
  • This town was established during British rule in India by Lord Kitchener.
  • We also visited the old Gurudwara, the oldest Gurudwara in the region and still maintained well by locals.
  • Many legends are associated with this temple, and some say it has healing power!

Day3 Shimla - Manali

  • We woke up early and had breakfast at the hotel before heading to Manali
  • It took about 5 hours by car to get to Manali.
  • On the way, we stopped for lunch at a roadside cafe in Kullu.
  • Once we reached Manali, we checked into our hotel room and freshened up.
  • In the evening, we drove out of Manali along a winding mountain road to Keylong.
  • After dinner at a local restaurant, we walked around this small town that felt like it was stuck in time.

Day4 Manali - Solang Valley - Rohtang Pass - Manali

  • On the 4th day, we travelled to Solang Valley
  • A touristic place where one can enjoy snow skiing, tobogganing, and ice skating.
  • It is situated at a height of 11000ft above sea level.
  • After returning from the valley, we had lunch before starting our return journey back to Manali on the Rohtang Pass - the world's highest motorable road.
  • The pass offers views of the Himalayas that are beyond description.
  • En route, we stopped for some fantastic photographs.
  • We also enjoyed the scenic beauty around us with awe-inspiring vistas of mountains and valleys.
  • We reached Manali in time for dinner, after which we retired for restful sleep.

Day5 Manali sightseeing

  • Manali is a city in the state of Himachal Pradesh, and it is among India's most popular hill stations.
  • Manali receives tourists all year round and has many hotels for people to stay at.
  • One can also find many restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries and other places to eat during their visit.
  • There are some excellent views of snow-covered mountains and valleys.
  • On the top of the pass, you will get superb views that stretch out over LahaulSpitiKinnaur and Tibet, as well as the mighty Himalayan range, including Dhaula DharKunjutSaraya and Nanda Devi Parbat.

Day6 Dharamshala 08 hours journey

  • Dharamshala is a small and beautiful city in the Northern States of India, Himachal Pradesh.
  • This place is known for its scenic view, temples, incredible views and natural beauty.
  • The best thing about this place is that it's not too far from other destinations like Dhauladhar and Kangra Valley
  • You can enjoy both places back in Chandigarh if you have more time.
  • It would be wise to make sure you have some extra cash for shopping when you get here because everything is so cheap!

Day7 Dharamshala - Mcleodganj local sightseeing - Dalhousie

  • On the seventh day, we visit Dharamshala, the home to His Holiness, the Dalai Lama and his Tibetan Government in Exile.
  • We also visited a Buddhist monastery and saw where His Holiness lives.
  • Afterwards, we head towards Mcleodganj to see the beautiful temple on top of a hillside.
  • Mcleodganj is a small town in the foothills of the Himalayas.
  • The town was once known as Little Lhasa and was an important Tibetan trade centre.
  • It is also home to many Tibetan Buddhist monasteries, including the largest temple in North India, the Namgyal Monastery.
  • Today, it is a popular tourist destination for travellers who want to explore Tibet's rich culture and history.
  • Along with this temple, many markets sell all sorts of items and an organic food market that sells fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • It is worth visiting for sure!
  • Finally, we stopped by Dalhousie.

Day8 Dalhousie - Khajjiar - Dalhousie

  • Arrive at Khajjiar in the morning and explore this beautiful valley.
  • The entire plateau is a national park managed by the Forest Department.
  • In addition to other wild animals, one can see monkeys running about freely, peacocks, and exotic birds.
  • After exploring the valley for a few hours, we return to Dalhousie for a lunch break before continuing to our next destination.
  • Our final destination for today is Dalhousie.

Day9 Dalhousie - Chandigarh

  • Today after breakfast, we will get ready to return to Chandigarh.
  • We are happy that we could complete the incredible Himachal tour
  • However, this duration was not enough for us to visit all the beautiful places in Himachal Pradesh, like Shimla and Manali.
  • We would be grateful if someone could recommend some other places which can be visited for a day or two so that it won't affect our work schedule too much.

Conclusion

Overall, I had a great time exploring the beautiful state. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I would go back to this magical place. The people were so kind and friendly, the food was delicious, and the landscape was breath-taking. My only regret is not having enough time there to do more activities like rafting or cycling.
